Our Learning Philosophy
Curiosity, interdisciplinary learning and critical thinking: the values we aim to put into practice alongside our learners.
Six values, held open to reflection
HT Perspective's original values page names six ideas: interdisciplinary learning, diversity, curiosity, imagination, critical thinking and reflexivity. Together, they express the learning community we aim to develop and the attitudes we hope to practise alongside learners.
- Interdisciplinary learning: making connections across subjects. A cultural visit, a language activity or a classroom discussion can bring several kinds of knowledge into the same conversation.
- Diversity: recognising that learners bring different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Those differences are part of the conversation and of learning together.
- Curiosity: allowing questions and interests to guide attention. Learning begins with a willingness to look more closely and find out more.
- Imagination: leaving room for possibilities and creative expression. It sits alongside knowledge, observation and the development of one's own ideas.
- Critical thinking: examining ideas and reasons carefully. It involves considering how an understanding has been formed and how a viewpoint can be discussed.
- Reflexivity: reflecting on our own perspective and practice. This includes thinking about how experience influences what we notice, interpret and express.
Values that develop through practice
The page's central commitment is to keep reflecting on what these values mean in practice, allowing their meaning to evolve as programmes and the learning community develop. They are shared directions for learning, rather than a fixed checklist of achievements.
The original artwork expresses this approach through the words Journey with Depth, Gaze with Grace.
